Pakistan Day celebrated in Mauritius

Port Louis, 23 March 2022 (TDI): The High Commission of Pakistan in the Republic of Mauritius organized an event on Pakistan Day.

The Pakistani High Commission in Port Louis held a flag-hoisting ceremony to celebrate Pakistan’s national day on 23rd March. High commissioner Dr. Syed Rizwan Ahmed heads Pakistan’s mission to the African island nation.

The attendees included the Pakistani diaspora living in Mauritius, along with embassy officials. Special messages from Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Arif Alvi were read out. Moreover, the Pakistani community cut a cake to honor Pakistan’s national day.

Pakistan day celebrations across the world

The Pakistani diaspora community and Pakistan’s embassies across the world held events to celebrate Pakistan Day. These celebrations included flag-hoisting ceremonies and speeches in Pakistani embassies around the world.

Most of them were organized and supported by Pakistan’s official missions abroad. 23rd March is a national day in Pakistan. It marks the adoption of the Lahore Resolution by the Muslim League at what is now Minar-e-Pakistan in 1940.

The resolution called for establishing a sovereign independent state in the Muslim-majority provinces of British India. The day is a national holiday that is celebrated in Pakistan. Official celebrations include a comprehensive military and cultural parade in Islamabad.

The presence of many foreign dignitaries in Islamabad on Pakistan Day was noted. This year, the Pakistan day celebrations coincided with the 48th OIC Foreign Minister’s Summit held in Islamabad.

Pakistan-Mauritius ties

Pakistan and Mauritius established official diplomatic relations in 1969. Both countries are part of the Commonwealth of Nations as former British colonies. Pakistan has a high commission in Port Louis, and Mauritius has one in Islamabad.

A Preferential Trade Agreement was signed between Pakistan and Mauritius in 2007. Under the Agreement, Pakistan offered concessions to Mauritius on 130 items, whereas Mauritius has given a concession on 102 items.
