New York City, 20 January 2022 (TDI): With the collaboration of different actors in an initiative created to provide vulnerable communities with 100s of free antigen rapid testing kits, KN95 masks, and sanitizers, Pakistan Consul General Ayesha Ali joined Kashif Hussain in Brooklyn.

Moreover, Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Council Member Rita Joseph, Pakistan American Law Enforcement (PALS), and the Pakistani American Youth Society(PAYS) participated in the initiative.

New York, the state, the city, as well as the world, suffered from the COVID-19 virus that started in 2020. Indeed, within the United States, it is one of the US States strongly affected by the virus outbreak.

The first case in New York city started on March, 1 of 2020, and since then, the consequences of the outbreak started to affect the lifestyle of New York in general. There are currently 4.58 million COVID-19 positive cases in New York and 2.15 million only in New York City.

For instance, there were harsh pandemic measures such as lockdowns, social distancing, face mask covering, limitations of open business only for essential ones, and more. During a crisis, it is generally the vulnerable people that suffer the most, and this action is a way to help those in need.

PALS: An overview

The Pakistani American Law Enforcement Society is a non-profit organization founded in 2015. Its purpose is to represent Pakistani American Law Enforcement Officers and promote their involvement in US law enforcement agencies.

What is the Pakistani Youth Society (PAYS)?

PAYS is a non-profit organization made by Pakistani American people with similar views. It is an organization that unites the Pakistani community by providing communal space for meetings and activities. Hence that way is a change for their community and surrounding.

The Pakistani American Youth society has its location in New York, Brooklyn. In total, they have done three principal projects since its establishment in 2019. For instance, the names of the projects are first the Newkirk Community Garden and the two-phased COVID-19 community initiatives.

Concerning the first project of Newkirk Community Garden, PAYS is the organization that planned its construction in 2019. The project was a response to the closing of a community garden located at 736 East 8th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11230.

Regarding the two-phased COVID-19 community initiatives, they focused on delivering meals to different communities. For instance, they provided meals to health workers and Muslims that face food insecurity.
