Pakistan condemns the storming on Al Aqsa Mosque by Israeli settlers

Islamabad, 8 August 2022 (TDI): Pakistan condemned the storming by Israeli settlers in the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on Sunday.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, this action of Israeli settlers has violated the sanctity of Qibla e Awal. Moreover, It has hurt the sentiments of all Muslims.

Pakistan considered such actions a clear violation of international law, and any attempt to change the legal and historical status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque must be stopped.

Further, Pakistan has called upon the international community to take immediate action to end the actions of Israeli forces in the Palestinian state. These actions continue to increase violence, instability, and tension in the region.

Additionally, Pakistan renewed its call for a viable, independent, and contiguous Palestine, with pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the state’s capital.

On 6 August 2022, Pakistan condemned the air strikes by Israeli forces on Gaza that resulted in causing many deaths, including a 5-year-old girl. In a tweet, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, called this the ‘latest act of Israeli terrorism.’

Pakistan’s support for Palestine

Pakistan has always expressed its full support for Palestine against Israel’s actions. In 2021, the Senate of Pakistan passed resolution 487, which condemned Israel’s aggression on Palestine and called it a ‘one-sided war.’

According to the Resolution, “Pakistan stands shoulder to shoulder with the struggle of the Palestinian people and we salute the valor, heroism, and sacrifices of Palestinian people, including children resisting repression with grit, determination, and an indomitable spirit.”

In May 2021, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan reaffirmed his support for Gaza and Palestine amid Israel’s continuous 11-day attacks on Gaza. He tweeted, “I am PM of Pakistan and We Stand with Gaza, We Stand with Palestine.”

Previously, in 2014, Pakistan provided assistance of US$ 1 million to the people of Palestine through United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
