Pakistan COAS meets Turkish military and civil leaders

Ankara, 14 September 2023 (TDI): General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan, embarked on a significant official visit to the Republic of Türkiye as part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic and military ties between the two brotherly nations.

During his visit, COAS General Munir met with high-ranking officials. It included President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, foreign and defence ministers, the Commander of the Turkish General Staff, and commanders of the Turkish Land and Air Forces.

In these meetings, the COAS underlined the importance of enhancing defence collaboration and training cooperation. He reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to strengthen their historic, diplomatic and military relations.

Moreover, General Munir expressed his admiration for the Turkish Military’s tireless efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the region. He also commended the exceptional standards of operational readiness of the Turkish Armed Forces.

In a gesture of respect and remembrance, COAS General Munir also visited the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Ankara. He also laid a floral wreath to honour the great leader and symbolize the deep-rooted friendship between Pakistan and Türkiye.

Additionally, General Munir visited the Turkish Land Forces Headquarters. They warmly welcomed him and presented him with a Guard of Honour.

In recognition of his exceptional services in promoting defence relations between the two countries, the COAS was conferred with the prestigious Legion of Merit by the Minister of Defense and the Commander of Turkish Land Forces.

“Pakistan and Türkiye have strong brotherly relations which have always stood the test of time. Pakistan Army is always willing to extend full support to the Turkish Land Forces in multiple domains”, General Munir stated during the ceremony.

In addition, he said that Pakistan has consistently supported its Turkish counterparts during both challenging times and moments of victory. It is dedicated to further bolstering the brotherly bonds that unite our two nations.
