Pakistan, China ready to broaden scope of CPEC

Islamabad, 18 October 2022 (TDI): The Minister of Planning and Development of Pakistan, Ahsan Iqbal met the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Nong Rong.

The meeting took place on Monday in Islamabad. During the meeting, both countries agreed to expand the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project from infrastructural development to enhancing the industrial capacity of Pakistan.

They further discussed issues related to mutual cooperation on energy and electricity projects. Exchanging his views on the occasion, the Planning Minister said self-reliance in the energy sector will stabilize the economy of the country.

He complemented China’s efforts in making special economic zones a reality. Moreover, Minister Ahsan Iqbal added that the prosperity of Baluchistan is in the development of Gwadar.

In this vein, he gave credit to Prime Minister Shabaz Sharif by saying that the process has quickened up on the directions of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Likewise, the Minister pointed out that the electric supply from Iran to Gwadar will commence by December 2022 and from the National grid by March 2023.

China Pakistan Economic Corridor 

China Pakistan Economic Corridor is a project to enhance geographical connectivity. CPEC will not only benefit Pakistan and China but it will have a positive outcomes for Iran, Afghanistan, and the Central Asia Republic.

It will transform the whole region in regard to road, rail and air transportation systems with frequent and free exchanges of growth and people-to-people contact, enhancing understanding through academic, cultural, and regional knowledge and culture.

The flow of trade and business activities will increase, producing and moving energy to have more optimal businesses and enhancement of cooperation by a win-win model will result in well connected, an integrated region of shared destiny, harmony, and development.

CPEC is said to be a game changer as it is  believed to boost  not only the economy of Pakistan but it will promote stability and cooperation in the region making it a globalized region.
