Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari spoke by phone today with Qin Gang, China's newly appointed Foreign Minister.

Islamabad, 9 January 2023 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari spoke by phone today with Qin Gang, China’s newly appointed Foreign Minister.

The Foreign Minister congratulated Foreign Minister Qin on his new appointment, noting that Pakistan and China are time-tested friends and All-Weather Partners with a long history of mutual support and cooperation.

The two counterparts spoke about regional issues of mutual concern. They reaffirmed Pakistan and China’s commitment to advancing the bilateral All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

Along these lines, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed gratitude for China’s active participation in and support for today’s International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan.

It is pertinent to note that, China’s generous and timely assistance for post-flood reconstruction provided solace to millions of Pakistanis and served as a shining example of international cooperation.

Also, with the Chinese Lunar New Year approaching, he extended his best wishes and greetings to Foreign Minister Qin and to Wang Yi, Politburo Member and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, who was succeeded Qin as Foreign Minister.

It is pertinent to note that Wang Yi had been serving the country as Foreign Minister since 2013. Both were appointed in October to the Communist Party’s 205-member Central Committee, the body in charge of making national policy.

The former Chinese Ambassador to the United States (US), Qin Gang, was named as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.

The news was shared on Friday, 30 December by the state broadcaster, China Central Television (CCTV). Hua Chunying, the Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of China also shared the news. She congratulated the new Foreign Minister on Twitter.
