Islamabad, 16 April 2024 (TDI): On Tuesday, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, met with Minister of Defense Khawaja Muhammad Asif underlining the commitment to strengthen cooperation in the realm of defense.
The Minister greeted the Ambassador, expressing that Pakistan regards Azerbaijan as an important nation. This is due to its strategic position, vast resources, progressive mindset, and rapidly rising economy.
According to a Defense Ministry statement, Khawaja Asif emphasized the significance of bilateral fraternal links between two countries based on historical, cultural, and religious similarities.
Moreover, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif voiced a desire to improve defense cooperation, which had enormous potential for growth to the advantage of both countries.
He further emphasized the need for continual cooperation between the two nations’ highest military and defense leadership.

Following the meeting, the participants discussed the prospects for conducting the 8th discussion of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Intergovernmental Joint Commission in Islamabad.
Both sides praised the Azerbaijan Airlines Closed Joint Stock Company (AZAL) for beginning a Baku-Karachi-Baku service on April 18. This follows the airline’s services to Lahore and Islamabad.
Pakistan-Azerbaijan expanding defense collaboration
The 10th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Working Group was held between Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense and Pakistan’s Joint Headquarters in March 2024. This meeting demonstrated both nations’ commitment to strengthening their defense and security partnerships.
The discussion during the session covered many aspects of military cooperation, such as education, operational planning, and joint exercises. This reflected a holistic approach to fostering bilateral relations.

Reportedly, Pakistan and Azerbaijan signed a contract for the delivery of JF-17C Block-III fighter multirole aircraft in February this year. It stated that Pakistan Aeronautical Complex inked the largest export deal in the country’s history with the Azerbaijan Air Force.
The landmark agreement for JF-17C Block-III fighter planes has been concluded for $1.6 billion, encompassing the aircraft, training, and ammunition.
