Madrid, 28 November 2022 (TDI): Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety of Pakistan, Shazia Atta Marri participated in the meeting of the 26th Socialist International Congress on Sunday.
Pakistan deems climate change 'biggest threat' to planet
Climate Change is not just an environmental issue – it is a threat to health, livelihoods,agriculture, peace &security and the overall economy of the world. It is a threat beyond one’s imagination!

The XXVI Congress of the Socialist International took place in Spain from 25 to 27 November. The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) hosted the event.
Among the participants were heads of state and government, and party leaders from all over the world. While addressing congress, Marri expressed solidarity with the women and children affected by the wars in Palestine, Jammu & Kashmir, and all around the world.
She also highlighted the catastrophic impact of Climate Change in Pakistan. In this vein, the Minister added, “Climate Change has affected Pakistan badly this summer.
More than 33 million people have been affected, 650 thousand women and about 4 million children have suffered.”

“A few years back, many around the world including Socialist International members were debating on the issue of climate change, as the debate continues, the climate-related disasters kept weaving havoc around us,” she continued.
The Federal Minister further reiterated that it is important to understand that climate change is not just an environmental issue. It is a threat to health, livelihood, agriculture, peace and security, and the overall economy of the world.
Marri concluded by saying that climate change is a threat beyond the imagination of the common man. The truth is that the future of our planet in all aspects is dependent on this issue of climate change.
It is pertinent to mention that Socialist International Congress unanimously voted & adopted the declaration regarding Climate Change. Members expressed solidarity with Pakistan & assured their support to the resilient people of Pakistan.
