Islamabad, 26 December 2022 (TDI): Sheikh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif had a phone conversation.

The Prime Minister invited the Emir to the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan that will be held in Geneva on January 9, 2023, and will be co-hosted by Pakistan and the UN.

Moreover, the Prime Minister thanked Sheikh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani’s kind humanitarian assistance following Pakistan’s devastation by floods brought on by climate change earlier this year.

He recalled that Pakistan was currently dealing with the enormous challenge of rebuilding and rehabilitation in a way that was climate-resilient.

Aside from that, the Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan had made the best use of its own limited resources, but more international assistance and solidarity were still needed.

These will help the country to meet the enormous challenge of recovery, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of the affected areas as well as to create resiliency against future climate shocks.

The Prime Minister also congratulated the Emir on the successful hosting of the FIFA 2022 Football World Cup and on raising the bar for international sporting events.

Additionally, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Emir had a brief discussion about bilateral and global issues of shared interest.
