New York, 23 September 2022 (TDI): The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif met the President of the US, Joe Biden on Friday, The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nationa General Assembly (UNGA 77).

Correspondingly, the Prime Minister attended the reception hosted by the US president for world leaders participating in UNGA in New York.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shahbaz expressed his gratitude to the US for its help amid the ongoing floods. He also took the opportunity to thank the US for its continuous coronavirus vaccine assistance.

Additionally, he expressed his hope to strengthen Pakistan-US ties in the future.

Heavy monsoon rains bought great turmoil to Pakistan this year. Many areas of the country are submerged in water amid the floods caused by these rains.

It has caused the death of more than 1000 people and caused great infrastructural damage. Correspondingly, many countries stepped forward in helping Pakistan deal with these floods.

The US also aided during these challenging times. Recently, it announced an additional aid of $30 million in humanitarian assistance to support the people affected by floods.

Remarks of the American President:

During the meeting, President Biden expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of several lives due to devastating floods in Pakistan. He said that the US stands with the Pakistani people during these challenging times.

Moreover, he affirmed to help Pakistan deal with the impacts of floods in the future too.

The President of the US also highlighted this during his speech at UNGA 77. In his address, President Biden made a fervent appeal to the world to help Pakistan deal with the devastation of the recent floods.

He noted that Pakistan, which is still submerged, needs continuous aid from the world to deal with the impacts of recent floods.

The meeting marked the first in-person interaction between both leaders since Shehbaz Sharif took over as the Prime Minister this year.

Meeting with Microsoft founder Bill Gates:

The Prime Minister also met the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates on the sideline of UNGA 77. Bill Gates, the co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation also highlighted the ongoing flood situation in Pakistan.

He expressed his concern for the flood-stricken people of Pakistan. Additionally, he affirmed to continue helping Pakistan deal with the impacts of the flood.

The Founder of Microsoft also assured the Prime Minister to help the vulnerable people at risk of getting water-borne diseases. He highlighted establishing a surveillance system to monitor outbreaks of these diseases.

In response, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for helping the country deal with the climate change-induced disaster.
