Jakarta, 12 July 2023 (TDI): Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, Asad Majeed Khan, met with Ambassador Sarun Charoensuwan, who is the Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

This meeting was arranged on the sidelines of the 30th Ministerial Meeting of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in Jakarta.

During the meeting, both officials discussed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and expressed their commitment to further strengthening the ties between Pakistan and Thailand.

They also explored opportunities for collaboration in various sectors such as trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

Pakistan and Thailand already share strong and historic bilateral ties, with diplomatic relations established in 1951.

The two countries have consistently supported each other on regional and international platforms and mutually understand key issues.

Thailand also hosts more than 250,000 Pakistani expatriates, which contributes actively to the economic growth of both nations.

Both Pakistan and Thailand have benefited from increased trade and investment cooperation, with bilateral trade reaching a record high in recent years.

Foreign Secretary Majeed Khan is leading Pakistan’s delegation in the ministers’ meeting of the ARF. Along with the ministerial meeting, he will be interacting with the counterparts of member countries on the sidelines.

Foreign Ministers from 27 of the member states, as well as the Secretary General of ASEAN, will be present at this ministerial meeting.

It provides a platform for dialogue and cooperation on regional security issues, including counter-terrorism, non-proliferation, and maritime security.

The participation of Pakistan in this meeting highlights its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.

It also underscores Pakistan’s active role in addressing regional security concerns and its dedication to fostering diplomatic relations with ASEAN member states.
