Barcelona, 12 July 2023 (TDI): Murad Wazir, Pakistan’s General Consul to Barcelona, paid a courtesy call to the Governor of Catalunya, Carlos Prieto Gómez, on July 11. This meeting was arranged at Governor’s office.
The session was aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation between Pakistan and Spain through trade and investment.
During the discussion, Pakistani expatriates’ welfare was also on the table. Spain has a strong Pakistani diaspora, with a significant number of Pakistanis living and working in various cities across the country.
The General Counsel expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to the Pakistani community in Spain, emphasizing the importance of their contributions to both countries’ economies and cultural diversity.
Additionally, they discussed potential measures to further enhance the welfare and protection of Pakistani expatriates in Spain.
Governor Gomez acknowledged the valuable contributions made by the Pakistani community in Spain and expressed his commitment to ensuring their well-being and safety.
He also highlighted the importance of fostering stronger ties between Spain and Pakistan, both economically and culturally, to promote mutual growth and understanding.

Spain and Pakistan have shared strong bilateral ties with increasing trade volume over the years. Over the past 26 years, Spain’s exports to Pakistan have grown at an average annualized rate of 10.8 percent, while if we look at Pakistan’s exports to Spain, they escalated at an average annual rate of 8.49 percent.
Both countries have great potential in this area and can further enhance their economic cooperation through increased investment and trade partnerships.
Moreover, fostering cultural exchanges and collaborations between Spain and Pakistan can deepen understanding and appreciation of each other’s rich heritage, traditions, and values, ultimately strengthening the bond between the two nations.
This meeting can be seen as a significant step towards strengthening the bilateral relations between Spain and Pakistan. It provides an opportunity for both countries to discuss and address mutual concerns, and explore new avenues of partnership.
