Islamabad, 13 April 2023 (TDI): Asad Majeed Khan, the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, met with Khazar Farhadov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, to examine measures to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the two officials covered various subjects of shared interest, including regional security, trade, investment, and economic cooperation. They reviewed strategies for improving Pakistan-Azerbaijan cooperation in defense, energy, tourism, and culture.

The Foreign Secretary stressed the value of the strategic alliance between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. He expressed his nation’s willingness to deepen relations in all dimensions, particularly trade, and investment.

He also emphasized the possibility of more inter-human interactions, primarily through travel and cultural exchanges. The two officials also highlighted the significance of developing connectivity between the two countries through transportation and infrastructure.

Both diplomats investigated the significance of establishing direct flights between Islamabad and Baku. They also analyzed approaches for enhancing road and rail connectivity between the two countries. They also explored forming joint ventures and investing in various sectors.

Both spokespeople expressed their determination to boost bilateral cooperation in all domains and work together to deepen Pakistan-special Azerbaijan’s strategic partnership.

They hoped this meeting would pave the way to closer connections between Pakistan and Azerbaijan and a better future for both nations’ citizens.

Azerbaijan- Pakistan Strategic Alliance 

Since the creation of Pakistan, Pakistan, and Azerbaijan have enjoyed a unique strategic partnership. Both nations have longstanding historical, religious, and cultural links.

Azerbaijan was among the first countries to recognize Pakistan after its independence. Pakistan was also among the first to acknowledge Azerbaijan’s sovereignty after the fall of the Soviet Union.

The two countries have worked closely together on many matters of shared concern over the years. They have strengthened each other in regional and international forums.

The two nations have always stood by each other during times of need, and their relationship is considered one of the region’s most substantial and strategic.

Pakistan has strongly supported Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, particularly in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Azerbaijan has also defended Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue. Both countries have consistently worked together to promote peace and stability in the region.
