Pakistan, being the chair of United Nations Security Council (UNSC), received an official request from Cambodia to convene an emergency meeting, on the day fighting started – July 24th.
Pakistan acted on the request and a private meeting was called the next day. Now, welcoming the ceasefire, it urged long-term resolution of the border dispute through dialogue.
“We appreciate the spirit of dialogue and express hope for a peaceful resolution through diplomacy and regional cooperation,” FO said.
Since the ceasefire took effect, Thailand has accused of Cambodia of violations while the latter expressed satisfaction over the situation on ground.

Both countries’ military heads also met earlier today to discuss the implementation of the truce and movement of the troops back to their positions, as the ceasefire requires.
The ceasefire also requires independent monitoring so that violations can be established and reported in a transparent way.
The five-day fighting took 35 lives and displaced 270000 people from the border regions. Both countries quickly realized the cost and expressed willingness for direct talks.
The dispute between them simmers over a land claim; a temple precisely which is claimed by both sides. The fresh round of fighting was mainly due to the death of a Cambodian soldier in May and then a more recent incident in which five Thai soldiers were injured due to a land mine explosion.
