New York (TDI): Pakistan has joined the US, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkyie, Jordan, Indonesia, the UAE, and Qatar in urging the UN Security Council to swiftly adopt a US-drafted resolution approving Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan.
In a joint statement released Friday, the countries stated that they hoped for the resolution’s “swift adoption” to help stabilize the fragile ceasefire that has lasted during Israel’s two-year conflict with Hamas.
The statement praised the peace plan as “a sincere effort” and a “viable path toward peace and stability, not only between Israelis and Palestinians, but for the entire region.”
The proposed resolution would welcome the formation of the Board of Peace, a transitional governing body for Gaza, supposedly chaired by Trump and having a mandate until the end of 2027.
It also permits the formation of a temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF) to work with Israel, Egypt, and newly trained Palestinian police to safeguard border areas and facilitate the demilitarization of Gaza.
Unlike prior drafts, the resolution emphasizes the possibilities for a future Palestinian state. At the same time, Russia released a competing draft resolution that does not permit a Board of Peace or the immediate deployment of international forces.

Instead, the Russian draft directs the UN Secretary-General to detail possibilities for executing the peace plan and report on the potential deployment of a stabilizing force. It also does not mention Trump’s name.
The US mission to the UN cautioned that the ceasefire remains “fragile” and warned of “grave, tangible, and entirely avoidable consequences for Palestinians in Gaza” if the resolution is delayed.
While Council members generally support the principles of the peace plan, questions remain about aspects of the US draft, including monitoring mechanisms, the role of the Palestinian Authority, and specifics of the ISF.
Pakistan’s participation demonstrates its sustained involvement in regional diplomacy and support for international efforts to stabilize Gaza and promote a long-term peace framework.
Amid Israel’s campaign to disable the UN relief agency for Palestine refugees, UNRWA, Pakistan has strongly called on the international community to ensure that this “vital” institution is protected and enabled to discharge its mandate without hindrance
