Islamabad (TDI): Senator Vicente Azpitarte Pérez, Member of the Spanish Senate, called on Pakistan’s Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, at his residence.
Both dignitaries had detailed discussions on strengthening bilateral parliamentary relations, expanding trade and cultural cooperation, and extending mutual support at the global level.
Chairman Senate said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Spain, particularly within the broader framework of the European Union. He added that Spain’s support to Pakistan at international forums has always been welcomed, including the stance on Palestine.
He told the Spanish Senator that Pakistan values peace and hopes to resolve the issue of Kashmir in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions, while also spotlighting India’s corresponding aggression on the matter.

The Chairman also observed that climate change, security, and energy are key areas where Pakistan and Spain can and must cooperate regularly. He invited Spain to participate in the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference scheduled for November, in Islamabad.
He introduced the conference as a platform for sharing experiences, enhancing parliamentary cooperation, and promoting mutual relations. Both sides agreed to expedite the exchange of parliamentary delegations and revive historical and cultural linkages.
Both dignitaries also acknowledged the role of a vibrant Pakistani diaspora in Spain, contributing to bridge relations and pave friendly ties.
Senator Vicente Azpitarte Pérez also expressed Spain’s desire for strong relations with Pakistan, adding that greater parliamentary cooperation and development of joint strategies to effectively address emerging global challenges are the way forward.
