Islamabad (TDI): Upper chamber of Pakistan’s parliament, Senate, and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation have signed Memorandum of Understanding that would further enhance ties between the two countries through parliamentary diplomacy.
The signing of MoU was materialized in a meeting between Speaker of the Federation Council, upper chaqmber in Russia, Valentina Matvienko and Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani here on Monday.
On this occasion, the two sides noted that Russia and Pakistan enjoy traditionally friendly relations. They stressed active bilateral political dialogue, including at the highest level, and strong inter-parliamentary relations.
Madam Speaker highlighted that Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has made a significant contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation within the SCO.

She also recalled past time and praised Gilani efforts for enhancing ties between the two countries as Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chairman of the Russia-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Valentina Matvienko invited Chairman Senate to pay an official visit to Russia in 2025.
Madam Speaker also visited the Senate Museum and left a note in the Senate Book of honorary guests.

Earlier in October, President Asif Ali Zardari and Russian President Vladimir Putin interacted briefly on the sidelines of an international forum in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, where they pledged to further strengthen bilateral ties. The two countries have pledged to enhance ties and cooperation in various sectors.
