Pakistan Invites Italy to Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference

Islamabad (TDI): Advisor to the Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Misbah Khar, visited the Embassy of Italy to meet with the Italian Ambassador to Pakistan, Marilina Armellin.

During the meeting, Khar apprised the Ambassador of the creation of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC), a newly established multilateral forum designed to advance cooperation and dialogue among national parliaments.

She noted that the ISC has already brought together 45 presiding officers from legislatures across the world, and that in elections recently held in Malaysia, Chairman Senate Yousuf Raza Gillani was unanimously chosen as the organization’s inaugural President.

Khar conveyed an official invitation to the President of the Italian Senate, Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, to participate in the first full session of the ISC, to be held in Islamabad on November 11–12, 2025.

Ambassador Armellin welcomed the initiative and discussed avenues for enhanced parliamentary and institutional engagement between Pakistan and Italy.

Both sides expressed confidence that Italy’s participation in the ISC would help strengthen dialogue and deepen ties between the two countries’ legislatures.
