Oman Felicitates Germany on National Day

Muscat, 4 October 2021 (TDI): Haitham bin Tarik, the Sultan of Oman sent a congratulatory message to the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank Walter Steinmeier. The message was sent on the occasion of the National Day of Germany.

In the message, the ruler of Oman conveyed his sentiments by wishing progress and prosperity to the people of Germany. Traditionally, Oman and Germany have enjoyed friendly and close bilateral relations.

Oman Germany Diplomatic Ties

The two countries have been regularly collaborating in the domains of politics and economy. Oman holds Germany in high esteem because of the role it has played to mediate politically, in the region.

There are regular bilateral consultations as well as exchanges in the aforementioned fields. Consular relations between the two were established in 1967. Later they were upgraded to diplomatic relations in 1972.

Oman and Germany have developed a mutually advantageous bilateral relationship based on common outlooks. The two countries extensively collaborate in the trade sector. Bilateral friendship societies like the German-Omani Society plays an important role to boost people-to-people exchanges.

German National Day

The German National Day or the German Unity Day is celebrated on 3rd October every year. It memorializes the reunification of Germany in 1990. Ever since, it has existed as a single German state. The day is a national public holiday in Germany.

The treaty that officially merged Eastern and Western Germany in 1990, prescribed October 3 as the day that both sides would unite and East Germany would join West Germany’s constitution. The celebration on this day every year, commemorates the reunification of the two regions of Germany into one cohesive country.
