Jeddah, 19 December 2022 (TDI): Hissein Brahim Taha, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) felicitated the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Qatari people over successfully organizing the 2022 World Cup tournament.

The Secretary-General praised the outstanding event that astounded the world, making the tournament an epic edition commended by all parties and spectators.

2022 FIFA World Cup

The 2022 FIFA World Cup was the 22nd edition of the tournament. The men’s national teams of FIFA member associations competed in the international football competition.

Argentina became the world champion after defeating France, the defending champions.  It was the second World Cup held entirely in Asia after the 2002 competition in South Korea and Japan.

It was held in Qatar from November 20, 2022, to December 18, 2022. It is also noteworthy that this was the first World Cup to be held in the Arab and Muslim worlds.

It is the most costly World Cup to date, with an estimated cost of over $220 billion.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be the last with 32 teams as 48 teams are expected to compete in the 2026 tournament wich will be hosted by the United states of America (USA).
