Beijing, 26 November 2021 (TDI): Chinese translation of ‘Nuskha Hye Wafa’ was introduced in a special ceremony, at the Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing. Nuskha Hye Wafa is a collection of poems by one of the renowned and enlightened poets of Pakistan, Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
The translation of the book was launched in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. Professor Zhang Shixuan translated the book into the Chinese language. He is a distinguished Chinese poet as well as translator and critic of the Urdu language.
The event was organized in a hybrid format and was attended by high-ranking Chinese officials, Pakistan Embassy officials, academicians, as well as media representatives.
Daughter of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Saleema Hashmi lauded the efforts of Professor Zhang to translate the collection of poems. She underscored that such ventures will further strengthen literary and cultural ties between China and Pakistan. She attended the event virtually.
During the ceremony, Professor Zhang also paid tribute to the poetic genius and idealism of the esteemed Pakistani poet. He reminisced about Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s personal association and sentimental attachment with China; which is evident from the three poems he composed during his visit to China in 1965.
Furthermore, Professor Zhang expressed optimism that the translation will inculcate keen interest in Urdu literature amongst the younger Chinese generation. It will help to further enhance literary ties between the two staunch partners.
Pakistani Ambassador to China, Moin ul Haque also delivered a speech during the ceremony. He emphasized that Faiz Ahmed Faiz had a close connection with China. He commended Professor Zhang Shixuan’s efforts to introduce Urdu literature to China.
Such efforts by intellectuals are the reason behind the popularity of Urdu in China. Ambassador Moin enunciated that Pakistan’s Embassy will continue to work jointly for translating literary works of China and Pakistan.
China’s former Ambassador to Pakistan, Lu Shulin also praised the poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz whilst addressing the event. Aside from him, the Professor of Urdu language at Beijing Foreign Studies University, Zhou Yuan also read a paper on the poetry of Faiz.
