North Korea Strongly Criticizes US Revised Nuclear Strategic Plan

-

SEOUL, 24 August 2024 (TDI): North Korea has vehemently criticized a revised nuclear strategic plan approved by US President Joe Biden, local media reported.

North Korea’s Foreign Ministry declared, “The DPRK will continue to enhance its strategic capabilities by any means necessary to counter and eliminate all security threats stemming from Washington’s dangerous nuclear posture adjustments. We will decisively respond to any type of nuclear threat.”

State media KCNA stated that efforts by other nations to strengthen their defense capabilities against increasing nuclear threats from the US should not be used as an excuse for the US to escalate its nuclear arms buildup and aggressive nuclear posture.

The report also emphasized that no matter how much the US exaggerates the ‘nuclear threat’ from other countries, North Korea will persist in developing a nuclear force that is both sufficient and reliable to defend its sovereignty and security interests according to its planned schedule.

Earlier this week, the White House clarified that the updated nuclear strategic plan was not designed in response to any specific country or challenge. The New York Times reported that the plan refocused US deterrence strategy to address Beijing’s growing nuclear arsenal for the first time.

China’s foreign ministry has expressed serious concern over the report, which suggests that the new plan aims to prepare Washington for potential coordinated nuclear threats from China, North Korea, and Russia.
