NGOs in China supporting the UN 2030 Agenda

Beijing, 3 November 2021 (TDI): Webinar on “United Nations and Me: Stories from the NGOs” was jointly organized by the China NGO Network for International Exchanges and the Chinese Association for International Understanding on Wednesday.

The civil society organization has pledged to support the role of the United Nations.  They have also taken concrete actions to accelerate the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. NGO representatives, researchers said this during the webinar.

The webinar is a series of Webinar that the China NGO Network for International Exchanges and the Chinese Association for International Understanding has been organizing to promote dialogue and understanding. Representatives from across China and Foreign NGOs attended this important meeting. Participants shared their activities and stories with the UN. 

The Chinese government has made significant contributions towards world peace and encouraging the role of civil society work in China. For the past five decades, Chinese NGOs cooperated with the UN and played an important role in the UN. This was said by the Secretary-General of the CAIU.

Yuan further added that China’s NGOs have made a significant contribution towards China’s fight against the COVID_19 pandemic. Chinese NGOs have also made outstanding contributions towards poverty alleviation and tackling climate change.

One of the representatives of the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, one of the Non Governmental organizations established in 1989 has said that the organization has actively participated and worked together with the UN. Wu Pend said that the foundation has worked closely and since 2016 has shared the Chinese experience in poverty reduction.

He has further highlighted that the organization has raised 7.83 billion yuan ($1.2 billion) in funds.  Its “Smiling Children School Feeding” project and “Panda Pact” project were selected as the best global poverty reduction projects by seven organizations of the UN system and the World Bank in 2019 and 2021 respectively.

Representative Ni Yao from the All-China Environment Federation said social organizations have many things to do to integrate social forces for environmental protection.

Yao further called on more Chinese NGOs to work with the UN and join social organizations across the world to accelerate the implementation of the UN goal of sustainable development and stride into a better future.
