Islamabad (TDI): The Pakistan National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), as the Regional Chair of the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), have hosted the INSARAG Asia-Pacific meeting in Islamabad from October 28 to 29.
The inaugural sessions commenced by Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, INSARAG Global Lead Winston Chang, and UN Resident Coordinator Mohamed Yahya.
In addition, the speakers at the conference covered a wide range of topics, including 2024 work plans on a global and regional scale, stakeholder discussions on governance reviews.
Furthermore, they also covered a wide agenda including the global summit, accountability, compliance, classification, the global strategy for 2026–2030, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), partners, and localization.

The Chairman of NDMA underscored Pakistan’s dedication to advancing its disaster management systems, refining early warning measures, and augmenting capacity for swift reaction.
He emphasized the significance of INSARAG’s mandate, asserting, “INSARAG’s mandate to foster cooperation, coordination, and standardization in global search and rescue operations is essential.”

He stated that NDMA had suggested a strategic strategy to consolidate disaster response operations nationwide, guaranteeing a unified and effective approach to disaster management.
Furthermore, Fifty-five delegations from China, Russia, Australia, South Korea, Turkiye, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and international networking and humanitarian organizations are attending the conference.
Other participants comprised representatives from government agencies, country directors of UN organizations in Pakistan, representatives of NGOs and INGOs, and media personnel.
The INSARAG Asia-Pacific Regional Conference will continue until Tuesday at the Marriott Hotel.
On January 17 of this year, NDMA took the chairmanship of INSARAG, strengthening its leadership position in regional disaster management initiatives.

INSARAG is a worldwide network focused on improving international disaster response and bolstering preparedness using Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) methodologies.
Furthermore, INSARAG establishes global benchmarks to guarantee that teams are adequately prepared for deployment during catastrophes. Thus, this initiative is indeed one of the best addressing the pressing concerns.
