Morocco Boat Tragedy: 7 Pakistani Survivors Repatriated

Islamabad (TDI): Seven Pakistani survivors of a recent boat tragedy near the coast of Morocco have been repatriated, authorities confirmed Thursday.

These individuals were deported from Spain and Italy after being provided due medical attention.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) facilitated the repatriation process and recorded their statements on their arrival home.

The survivors revealed that they were brutally tortured by human smugglers in the sea, and provided complete details of the smugglers. The FIA has extended the scope of investigation on the basis of new information.

According to the media reports, more survivors will soon return to Pakistan in the next couple of days. It was stated that one group would arrive at the Islamabad Airport on January 31, while the other would reach on February 1.

It should be noted that 43 Pakistanis lost their lives after a migrant boat capsized while trying to make the crossing from West Africa to Spain’s Canary Islands, confirmed Pakistan’s acting Ambassador to Morocco, Rabia Kasur.

She stated that a total of 65 Pakistani passengers were aboard the boat, 43 of them died while 22 survived the incident.
