Ulaanbaatar, 27 November 2021 (TDI): Mongolia participated in the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). It was held on 25 and 26 November under the theme of “Strengthening Multilateral Cooperation for Growth”.

13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM)

Cambodia chaired the 13th ASEM, virtually because of the Covid-19 limitations. Representatives of ASEAN and the European Union as well as 51 heads of state and government from Europe and Asia participated in the event.

During the Summit, the participants discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to regional as well as international developments. The Speaker of the State Great Hural of Mongolia, Gombojav Zandanshatar addressed the First Plenary Session of the Summit. The State Great Hural is the unicameral parliament of Mongolia.

Gombojav Zandanshatar, on behalf of his country, underscored the issue of climate change and its impact on the world. He stated that forums like ASEM can help countries in the struggle against climate change. It can bring Asia and Europe closer together for the sake of joint collaboration.

Moreover, it can play a fundamental role in ensuring prosperity and security by bridging the countries, regions, and continents, respectively. Additionally, he urged increased efforts to combat climate change. Climate change is one of the biggest threats endangering the present-day world.

Asia-Europe Meeting

The Asia-Europe Meeting was officially established in 1996 with the first Summit in Thailand. The European Union (EU) along with the European Commission, as well as the then Member States of the ASEAN, jointly established it.

Mongolia became a member of the 6th ASEM Summit in Helsinki, in 2006. ASEM is an Asian–European political dialogue forum that was established with the aim to enhance relations and cooperation in diversified sectors between its member states.
