Islamabad, 21 March 2022 (TDI): Mohmand Dam Project has achieved a significant milestone. The news was shared by the official Twitter handle of the Chinese embassy in Pakistan.

Mohmand Dam Project is another important cooperation project in the hydropower sector between China & Pakistan. China has been a major partner of Pakistan in developing hydropower along with contributing to the power sector of Pakistan.

Mohmand Dam

Mohmand Dam Project is located on the Swat River about 5 km upstream of Munda Head Works in Mohmand Tribal District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is an under-construction multi-purpose concrete-faced rock-filled dam.

The objectives of the dam are flood mitigation, irrigated agriculture development of 16,737 acres, hydropower generation, and socio-economic uplift of people of the area.

The project is being executed by WAPDA. The consultants are Mohmand Dam Consultants Group (MDCG). The commencement date of the project was September 20, 2019, while the completion date is December 2025.

In another news, the Chinese Embassy tweeted that the Dasu Hydropower Project is in steady progress after the resumption of work. Both Chinese and Pakistani workers despite challenges are working with grit to complete the project.

The project will be successful and provide affordable, clean power to the national grid. It is a run-of-river project on the Indus River located.

Dasu Hydropower Project

Dasu Hydropower Project is located 7km upstream of Dasu Town, District Kohistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The site of the Dam is 74km downstream of the proposed Diamer Basha Dam site. It is 345km from Islamabad.

Dasu Hydropower Project will generate 4320MW hydroelectric power with annual energy of 21445GWh. It will be developed in two stages. Stage-I will generate 2160MW with annual energy of 12,222GWh and will be completed in five years.

The project is being financed by the World Bank. Dasu Hydropower Project is one of the priority projects under the Power Policy 2013 and the Vision 2025 of the Government of Pakistan.
