Minister of Development of Pakistan attends Conference on future of CPEC in the US

Washington DC, 26 October 2021 (TDI): Pakistani Minister for Planning, Development, Reform, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar attended a conference in the Wilson Center in Washington DC. The conference was held on the future of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Former American Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale also attended the conference.

Asad Umar talked about the development programs under CPEC. He also highlighted its current status as well as its plans. Pakistani minister emphasized the role of China in enhancing the economy and development in Pakistan. He also stressed the role of CPEC in the perspective of enhancing regional economic activity by establishing regional connectivity.
Asad Umar acknowledged the role of China in reviving the economy of Pakistan by starting a historic project of CPEC in Pakistan. This project will help to eliminate the problems of economic decline, unemployment, poverty etc. The Pakistani minister underlined the four Special Economic Zones under the framework of CPEC in the conference. He also highlighted the Gwadar Free Zone area being constructed under the CPEC project.
Asad Umar then acknowledged the role of the US in enhancing the socio-economic condition of Pakistan. He mentioned that the United States is still the priority of Pakistan for its exports. He invited the Americans for investing in CPEC projects. It will help to strengthen the bilateral relations of the two states.
The Pakistani minister then highlighted the situation in Afghanistan. He accentuated that the stability of Afghanistan is very important for the stability of Pakistan. Asad Umar further expressed that Afghanistan can get huge help from the Pakistani vision of geo-economics. He urged the world community to help Afghanistan to deal with the challenges and to prevent the Afghans from instability and internal conflicts.
Pakistan and the United States enjoy good relations. They have been good allies since Pakistani independence. Pakistan looks forward to the US participation in the CPEC project which will strengthen the cooperation between the two states.
