New York, 30 September 2021 (TDI): Ambassador Juan Ramon de la Fuente represented Mexico at the Security Council meeting on 29 September.
De la Fuente expressed concern regarding the peace process in the Middle East, for the transfer of settlers, land seizures, demolition of more than 670 structures, and the displacement of the Palestinian population. According to De la Fuente, these actions are against International law and represent an obstacle to any peace initiative; the example he presented was the recent attack against Hebron Palestinian citizens.
Mexico urged to end the Israel settlements in the occupied Palestine territory, in compliance with UN Resolution 2334. Also, he stressed the need to prevent actions that limit Palestinian access as it violates International Humanitarian Law.
Mexico welcomed the announcement of the Palestinian Central Election’s Committee to organize elections. De la Fuente urged the Palestinian and Israeli security forces to protect the human rights of Palestinian citizens.
The delegation condemned the launching of rockets against Israel and Israel’s disproportionate use of force against Palestinian protesters.
The delegation welcomed the start of money transference schemes of the UN and called to lift the blockade in Gaza. De la Fuente mentioned the commitment between the Palestinian Authority, Egypt, and Jordan to resume political negotiations and work with allies to reactivate the peace process. He shared that Mexico delivered an additional contribution to help in the health operations for Palestinian refugees.
De la Fuente expressed Mexican support for civilian and security cooperation between Palestine and Israel. The Ambassador ended his speech reaffirming Mexican support for the two state’s solutions within the established border in 1967.
