Mexico City, 30 September 2021 (TDI): Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard held a telephonic conversation with China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday. As the next year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Mexico’s diplomatic relations with Beijing, both officials emphasized strengthening the strategic partnership with each other.
During the conversation, Wang Yi congratulated Mexico on the recent successful hosting of the 6th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). Appreciating Mexico’s contributions in promoting regional integration, the Chinese Foreign Minister announced Beijing’s application to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), exhibiting the country’s determination to get involved in the globalization process. He also committed to further supporting the CELAC with respect to enhancing solidarity and development.
Mexico’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard expressed gratitude towards China for supporting Mexico tackle the Covid-19 pandemic, besides agreeing to enhance cooperation in the digital economy and other emerging industries. He stated that Mexico will delightedly cooperate with China and will push for the strengthened bilateral relations between the two states. Ebrard also affirmed his support to China for the success of the Third Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum. Moreover, the officials reiterated that the China-Mexico comprehensive strategic partnership is gaining ground since the two have been supporting each other on the international and multilateral forums.
