Italian PM Meloni Supports Pakistan's Efforts in Hosting US-Iran Talks

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, received a telephone call from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy on Thursday.

Prime Minister Meloni appreciated Pakistan’s successful diplomatic efforts for the US-Iran ceasefire and resumption of dialogue. She felicitated Shehbaz Sharif on Pakistan hosting the forthcoming peace negotiations between the US and Iran in Islamabad.

PM Sharif underscored Pakistan’s genuine and sincere desire for peace and stability in the region. He welcomed the joint statement issued by key European and international leaders, including Prime Minister Meloni, in support of Pakistan’s peace efforts.

The call reflects the strong and growing bilateral ties between Pakistan and Italy. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to dialogue and cooperation on pressing regional issues.

The two leaders expressed serious concern over the ongoing hostilities in Lebanon. They agreed on the need for coordinated international efforts to prevent further escalation and pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.

The telephone conversation highlights Pakistan’s active role as a facilitator of regional dialogue at a critical time. The US-Iran talks are happening in Islamabad on Friday. Both leaders recognized the value of continued international engagement to support these talks.

The discussion also emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing broader challenges facing the Middle East. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed Pakistan’s readiness to work closely with Italy and other partners to promote stability.
