Maldivian State Minister attends Annual Commonwealth Meeting

Male, 18 September 2021 (TDI): Ahmed Khaleel, Maldivian State Minister, participated in the 21st Annual Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting (CFAMM) virtually. He attended it on the behalf of Maldivian Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid.

In the meeting, he reaffirmed the need for alternative financing options for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in order to overcome fiscal liquidity and debt challenges. The meeting’s agenda centered on the Commonwealth’s role in recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. It focused on rebuilding, including the health and equity of vaccines, trade challenges, and climate change, especially in the upcoming COP26 summit.

It was discussed in the meeting that the global pandemic’s consequences will be far-reaching. It will affect all parts of our lives. From economy to healthcare, from politics to its democratic discourse.
