Dushanbe, 18 September 2021 (TDI): The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, communicated with the Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State Summit, in Tajikistan, on 17 September. The Foreign Minister of China was representing China at the SCO Summit 2021.

During the talk, Imran Khan conveyed his kind regard to the President of China, Xi Jinping, and thanked China for its cooperation with Pakistan in restoring the economy during the global pandemic. Prime Minister Imran Khan also said that his country will continue to speed up the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Imran Khan mentioned that the friendship between the two states is unchangeable and assured the other side that the responsibility for the Dasu terrorist attacks will be punished and the Chinese in Pakistan will be given strict security. Dasu bus terrorist attack took place in August 2021 in Dasu. Pakistan investigated the incident and China praised Pakistan’s active efforts then.

Foreign Minister Wang conveyed the greetings of President Xi to Imran Khan. He agreed that the friendly relations between the two states are deep-rooted. He assured that Beijing supports Islamabad in its policies, safeguards its national sovereignty and dignity, and Pakistan’s role in international and regional matters.

Imran Khan and Wang Yi reiterated that the meeting of the 10th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) of CPEC will take place this month, and the 15th meeting of the China-Pakistan Joint Economic and Trade Commission will be held next month.

The Pakistani Prime Minister told Wang Yi about Pakistan’s stance on Afghanistan. At the SCO Summit 2021, the two sides agreed to further enhance strategic partnership to maintain peace and stability in the region by fighting terrorism and settling the Afghanistan situation.
