Nairobi, September 18, 2021 (TDI): About 52 million doses of vaccine have so far been delivered by China to more than 30 African countries. As the Sinopharm vaccine is approved by Kenya, now its use would facilitate both donations and purchases of vaccines from China.

The Chinese government has donated the first batch of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines comprising 200,000 doses to Nairobi. This batch of vaccines in Nairobi was welcomed by Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, Mr. Zhang Yijun, and PS of Kenya’s Ministry of Health, Ms. Susan Mochache.

The outbreak of COVID-19 had greatly impacted East Africa. This global health crisis had spilled over effects on East Africa’s largest economy as it had great implications on cultural and political sectors. An upsurge of infection has been faced by Kenya and to cut the transmission of disease in the community a toll is taking place on the economy, with tons of jobs lost in the pandemic.
