Maldives, Cambodia to foster stronger ties

Male, 16 January 2023 (TDI): The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, arrived Sunday morning on an official visit to Maldives at the invitation of the President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the seek to foster stronger ties.

The Cambodian Prime Minister and his accompanying delegation were received at Velana International Airport by the Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid.

The government held a ceremony today 16th January 2023 to officially welcome him. This followed several meetings and discussions on how to foster their ties.

Also, they discussed the ways to ensure a strong partnership between them. The two parties were particular about their bilateral relations and the ways to continue to get them stronger.

Ways such as economic relations, cultural exchange, and mutual support were more of the issues discussed.

The Maldives’ economy has largely been dependent on foreign exchange and their ability to promote relations with other countries will be a major developmental journey for them.

They seek the cooperation of Cambodia as they have agreed on numerous issues seeking to promote their trade relations.

Also, on the issue of cultural relations, they talked about the need to develop stronger cultural ties among themselves.

The Maldives-Cambodia relations have been strongly developed based on a common cultural trait. They possess certain commonalities in their cultural relations.

Moreover, on talking about the mutual support each of them should exhibit towards each other, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen expressed joy at this development and assured the government and the people of Maldives of their aim to promote this support even stronger.

In line with the above, ensuring that there is peace and stable governance for them all they discuss various ways to prevent any form of violence and terrorism activities in their countries.

The Maldives government promised the counterpart of their support in fighting the current economic challenges facing the world. Adding that, their relations will continue to grow daily with new initiatives.
