Vilnius, 28 August 2023 (TDI): Lithuania’s Foreign Minister, Gabrielius Landsbergis, engaged in constructive talks with Australian Senator, Deborah O’Neill. They discussed strengthening bilateral ties between Australia and Lithuania, and Foreign Minister Landsbergis appreciated Australia’s steadfast support to Ukraine.

The meeting underscored the role of the Australia-Baltic parliamentary friendship group in enhancing political and economic links between the two nations. This initiative aims to refine relations between Australia and the Baltic states, nurturing a deeper connection.

The discussions also highlighted plans to extend unwavering support to Ukraine, reflecting their joint commitment to valuable assistance. Furthermore, Foreign Minister Landsbergis warmly invited Australia to continue its support.

The agenda included significant subjects like a comprehensive talk about the newly adopted Indo-Pacific Strategy and the growing economic collaboration between Lithuania and Australia, signalling potential growth.

Additionally, Foreign Minister Landsbergis proudly shared a notable achievement in the trade domain – a remarkable 44% increase in exports of Lithuanian products to Australia in 2022. This upward trajectory demonstrates the robust economic ties between the two nations.

Furthermore, crucial deliberations were also held regarding the ongoing negotiations of the Australia-European Union Free Trade Agreement.

These negotiations can create more conducive business conditions for companies, including those from Lithuania while strengthening economic bonds.

Additionally, Foreign Minister Landsbergis commended the deepening of NATO partnership with Australia and acknowledged Australia’s participation in the NATO Summit in Vilnius.

He also conveyed Lithuania’s honour in hosting Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the Summit.
