Beirut, 20 October 2021 (TDI): This morning, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Abdullah Bouhabib, received the Ambassador of Greece, Catherine Fontolaki. At the meeting, Fontolaki confirmed Greek support for the government of Prime Minister Mikati.
Furthermore, the Greek Minister emphasized the need for coordination in order to develop bilateral relations and support Lebanon in regional and international forums. As well, she reaffirmed the intention of Greece to expand the tourism industry of both countries. The Lebanese Foreign Minister, for his part, noted that talks focused on economic cooperation between the two countries.
Greece provides assistance to Lebanon and has shared its measures to address past economic crises in the country. In that sense, Greece provides its experience in negotiating with the International Monetary Fund.
Last, they discussed preparations for the upcoming tripartite summit between the presidents of Lebanon, Cyprus, and Greece. This strategic partnership is very active. Cyprus Foreign Minister, Nicos Christodoulides, said that Lebanon’s priority was the formation of a credible government. From his perspective, this will take the decisions required and proceed with the long-needed structural reforms.
The next tripartite summit will be held in Nicosia, and the Member States aims at producing tangible results to the benefit of the people concerned, especially the new generation.
