Launching of high power transmission line under CPEC

Islamabad June 26, 2021 –(TDI):  Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Nong Rong along with Minister for Energy of Pakistan, Mr. Hammad Azhar and Chairman CPEC working for socio-economic development of Pakistan, Mr. Asim Saleem Bajwa participated in the launching ceremony of the Matiari-Lahore HVDC Transmission project. The ceremony simultaneously took place in Beijing via video link

The Matiari to Lahore high-voltage direct current is a ±660kV high power transmission line under CPEC which aims at stabilizing the power system of Pakistan.

Addressing the event, minister of energy Hammad Azhar stated that this south-to-north power transmission line has brought new technology to Pakistan that will bring stability to the power system of Pakistan by transferring power from power plants in Sindh to the northern power grid to fulfill its energy needs.

Zhang Jianhua, head of China’s National Energy Administration also addressed the ceremony and stated that the line is the first large-scale transmission project under CPEC and it will definitely bring stability to Pakistan as soon as it is put into commercial operation.

Ambassador Nong Rong said that the CPEC has entered into a new phase of cooperation with the Matiari-Lahore project that will help to Pakistan’s steady power supply and enhance the country’s industrialization.
