Astana (TDI): Kyrgyzstan has announced plans to build a large-scale logistics center and border terminal on its frontier with China, aiming to boost regional trade and strengthen its position as a key transit country in Central Asia.
The agreement for the project was signed last week, at the National Investment Agency as part of ongoing efforts to improve the country’s investment climate and attract foreign capital, according to Kabar.
Under the deal, total investments are expected to range between $100 million and $200 million. The first phase includes the construction of a modern logistics complex and terminal, which will serve as the foundation for developing the region’s wider transport and logistics network.

Officials said a special trade zone will also be established within the project area to facilitate cross-border commerce. Once operational, the new hub is expected to increase international freight volumes, expand Kyrgyz exports to markets across the Eurasian Economic Union and neighboring states, and significantly enhance the country’s transit capacity.

Beyond trade benefits, the initiative is also projected to create new jobs and improve supporting border infrastructure. The National Investment Agency will coordinate with relevant government bodies and private partners to ensure smooth implementation of the project.
Earlier reports indicated that Kyrgyzstan is also planning to build a similar logistics center in collaboration with Uzbekistan, signaling a broader regional push to modernize its trade and transport systems.
