Seoul, 28 October 2021 (TDI): Republic of Korea (ROK) commonly known as South Korea held a Vice-Ministerial meeting in Seoul. The Central American states of Costa Rica, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Belize, and Panama participated. The theme of the diplomatic engagement was to boost cooperation in a multitude of domains.
Choi Jong-Kun, First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of ROK represented his country in the meeting. He will be hosting a “special roundtable” multilateral dialogue event to discuss cooperation in trade, technology, and healthcare sectors. Foreign and Trade Vice Ministers represented their respective countries. Senior officials from the U.S. Vice President’s office and the State Department also attended the event.
Previously, the President of ROK, Moon Jae-in, held the first virtual summit with leaders of eight Central American nations. The meeting with the Central American Integration System, commonly known as SICA was meant to forge closer ties. ROK joined SICA in 2012, as an extra-regional observer.
