Santiago, 24 August 2023 (TDI): Kazakhstan and Chile have held another round of political consultations in Santiago, the capital of Chile under the chairmanship of the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ambassador Kairat Umarov and the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Ambassador Gloria Fuente.

 

During the meeting, the sides congratulated each other on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Chile and discussed a wide range of issues of strategic partnership.

Particular attention was paid to the importance of organizing high-level bilateral visits and strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, in their discussions.

In the same vein, the participants of the discussions appreciated the creation of the Kazakhstan-Chile Friendship Society in 2022. The Association’s activities are aimed at expanding cultural and academic exchange.

Furthermore, the officials exchanged views on the key issues on the global agenda and interacted based on multilateral frameworks.

Additionally, they emphasized the need to develop contacts with the Pacific Alliance, of which Chile serves as one of the founders including developing active interaction within the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Conclusively, the parties discussed matters of economic, trade, and investment track of cooperation. This also includes attracting foreign investors, government measures to modernize the economy, and protection of foreign investors.

Thus, the plans of the Chilean company, ME Elecmetal, to implement an investment project in the Republic of Kazakhstan were positively appreciated.

Membership of OECD

Kazakhstan emerged in 2008 as one of the OECD’s active partners in the Eurasia region. Hence, collaborating with the Organisation to improve the quality of its social, economic, and environmental policies and institutions.

On the other hand, Chile joined the Organization in 2010, thereby pledging its full dedication to achieving the Organisation’s fundamental aims and becoming the first South American country to join the OECD.
