King of Eswatini meets Zambian President

Lusaka, 3 July 2023 (TDI): King Mswati III of the Kingdom of Eswatini met with Hakainde Hichilema, President of Zambia, on a 3-day State Visit to Zambia.

The King of Eswatini visited Zambia after the visit of President Hichilema to Eswatini in June 2022. This mutual visit was planned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Both leaders held discussions on matters of mutual concern on bilateral and multilateral levels regarding trade, agriculture, energy, etc.

This visit focused on increasing cooperation and strengthening the relationship between the two friendly nations.

Seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) were signed between the leaders in the state house during the meeting.

Both sides agreed to increase cooperation in Defence and security, agriculture, trade, arts and culture, energy, forestry, and inter-governmental collaboration by signing these MoUs.

57th Trade Fair

During the visit, King Mswati III visited the 57th trade fair in the Copperbelt province of Zambia, Ndola.

The theme of the fair was “Stimulating economic development through Partnership, trade, and Investment.”

This event was week-long, with many national and international products showcased.

The King of Eswatini, with President Hakainde Hichilema, visited the exhibits and planned to enhance cooperation in trade and investment.

After the tour, King Mswati III spoke at the opening of the international trade fair 2023. He said that by the opening of the African continental free trade area, many private investors had faced challenges.

Many investors now have to become more innovative and interconnected with the increase in competition due to interconnectivity.

He also said that both countries should find more ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation to develop a safer environment for investors.

King of Eswatini visits Zambia and plans to reintroduce direct flights from Eswatini and Zambia to decrease the difficulty for traders.

King Mswati III invited President Hakainde Hichilema to the Eswatini International Trade Fair in September of this year.
