Astana, 31 August 2024 (TDI): Kazakhstan’s national atomic company, Kazatomprom, and Tajikistan’s TajRedMet (Tajik Rare Metals) have announced a strategic partnership aimed at advancing the mining and processing of uranium and rare-earth metals.
Under the agreement, the two companies will collaborate on exploration, mining, and processing operations for uranium and rare metals.
The partnership will also focus on research and development, technology innovation, and personnel training.
Meirzhan Yussupov, CEO of Kazatomprom, highlighted the significance of this collaboration for enhancing the partnership between the two nations.
He noted that while specific outcomes are yet to be seen, the joint projects are expected to bring substantial benefits to both Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
As part of the agreement, representatives from TajRedMet will visit Kazakhstan soon to inspect Kazatomprom’s facilities and explore further cooperation opportunities.

Tajikistan possesses considerable mineral resources, including rare metals and uranium, attracting interest from various international players.
Russia, China Show Interest
Russia and China have shown interest in developing Tajik uranium resources, while Indian companies are also set to explore uranium mineralization in the country.
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has called for a focus on mining and processing lithium, tungsten, nickel, and antimony to develop these resources domestically.
