Hanoi, 22 August 2023 (TDI): Kassym-Jomart Tokayev embarked on his first visit to Vietnam after becoming President of Kazakhstan. He held discussions on prospects of advancing relations in a variety of fields with Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong on August 21.
The Kazakh President was welcomed with a ceremony at the Presidential Palace. Afterwards, the Presidents of both countries received a welcoming report from the guard of the owner.
Moreover, the national anthem of both countries was played, followed by the introduction of official delegations on both sides.
Later on, the Presidents of both sides held talks centred on boosting mutual relations in trade, economy, investment, energy, culture, agro-industrial and energy sectors.
President Tokayev extended gratitude to his Vietnamese counterpart for the hospitality he received during the visit. He emphasized the significance of his first visit to the beautiful country of Vietnam.
Moreover, he highlighted that Vietnam and its people are highly respected in Kazakhstan and that the economic success of the former is a milestone for future collaboration between the two sides.
He underscored that Kazakhstan pays significant attention towards the political and economic interaction between the two sides while acknowledging the huge economic potential of Vietnam and the significant position it holds in the international arena.
Furthermore, the President noted that the mutual trade has already touched $600 million in the first six months of 2023, while they plan to reach $1 billion at the end of this year. Whereas the figure exceeded half a billion dollars last year.
On the other hand, the Vietnamese President expressed hope for the strengthening of traditional ties in various fields between the two countries while acknowledging the intensification of bilateral cooperation.
He further appreciated the beauty and economic prosperity of Kazakhstan emphasizing that Vietnam is closely following behind.
President Thuong expressed hope for Kazakhstan’s development to continue on a positive trajectory under the experience and leadership of President Tokayev, which will benefit the region and the world as a whole.

“Vietnam attaches great importance to traditionally friendly relations with Kazakhstan and considers your country an important partner in Central Asia,” the President further stated while commending the assistance of Kazakhstan during the struggle for national liberation and the development of Vietnam.
Lastly, President Tokayev invited President Thuong to pay a state visit to Kazakhstan.
During the visit, the two sides adopted a joint communique along with the signing of various other documents.
These include a Joint Action Plan for enhanced trade cooperation for 2023-2025, a Memorandum of Cooperation in Tourism and a MoU on the development of e-commerce among many other agreements between various institutes of both sides.
