Nur-Sultan, 27 August 2021 (TDI): President of Kazakhstan Kassym Jomart Tokayev warmly welcomed the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Robert Floyd, today.
Kassym Jomart Tokayev congratulated Robert Floyd for his election as the new Executive Secretary of CTBTO. The President affirmed that Kazakhstan is committed to CTBTO as the organization’s activities hold great significance for the country. Also, the President pledged to enhance Kazakhstan’s cooperation with CTBTO as a reliable partner. On his part, Robert Floyd praised the hospitality of Kazakhstan and expressed gratitude to the President. He briefed the President about his visit to the National Nuclear Centre in the Kurchatov area and the Semipalatinsk testing ground which was closed for nuclear testing 30 years ago. With that, Robert Floyd informed the President about his ambitions as the Executive Secretary of CTBTO. Both parties stressed the active engagement of youth groups with CTBTO and a joint nuclear disarmament agenda within the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).
Robert Floyd is on an official visit to Kazakhstan to observe the 30th anniversary of the closure of the Semipalatinsk testing ground for nuclear tests.
