Amman, 21 September 2021 (TDI): The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs of Jordan conveyed its condolences to Russia for yesterday’s shooting incident.
The gesture was made by Ayman Safadi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs & Expatriates on behalf of his country. He expressed his deepest condolences to the government and the people of the Russian Federation.
The Minister further stated that Jordan stands in solidarity with the bereaved people of Russia in the wake of the incident. Moreover, he communicated thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families along with wishing them a speedy recovery.
The shooting incident occurred yesterday, at the Perm State University, Russia, when a student opened fire. The incident caused fatalities and injury to dozens.
According to reports, at least six students were killed. It is noteworthy that, this is the second mass shooting incident in Russia, this year.
What actually happened?
On Monday morning, the assailant, a university student, walked onto campus and began firing. Students and faculty barricaded themselves inside the university building, while others screamed and jumped from windows.
According to authorities, the attacker was shot during a gunfight with a police officer & subsequently apprehended. One of the officers first on the scene, disarmed the offender, who was equipped with a gun & a knife, before delivering first aid.
President of Russia, Vladimir Putin said in a statement that the incident was “a great loss not only for the families who lost their children but for the entire country.”
It was reported that the gunman acted alone and claimed to have no political or religious motivations. The assailant also stated in a social media post that he was consumed by hatred and wished to harm others.

“I’ve been thinking about this for a long time, years, and I realized the time has come to achieve what I dreamed of,” he stated on a social media account ascribed to him that was later removed.
In another incident, a 19-year-old gunman opened fire in his old school in the central Russian city of Kazan earlier this year, killing nine people.
Perm State University or PSU, PSNRU, is located in the city of Perm, Perm Krai, Russia. Founded in 1916, it claims to be one of the oldest universities in the Ural and eastern territories of Russia.
