Amman, 7 October 2021 (TDI): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan conveyed its heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The message was expressed on the occasion of the earthquake in Baluchistan, Pakistan.

The earthquake struck Harnai, Baluchistan, today, at 3:01 am. It had a strong magnitude of 5.9 and a shallow depth of 9 kilometers. Harnai is situated 97 km east of Quetta. Consequently, twenty people lost their lives and hundreds are injured. Buildings and mud houses collapsed in the aftermath causing deaths of children and women, mainly.

Shallow earthquakes are more damaging, hence the dire situation in Harnai. Relief efforts are underway. Authorities are diligently working to rescue and offer first aid to the injured. Many injured have been evacuated or are being treated by military doctors and paramedics.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry via its Operation Center and the Embassy of Jordan in Pakistan are following the situation closely.
