Washington, 18 August 2021 (TDI): A joint statement released by the Department of Defense and State Department on 15 August 2021, explained the US’ strategy for the immediate evacuation of the Americans from Afghanistan.
The statement conveyed that the US was taking measures to secure the Hamid Karzai International Airport for both civilian and military flights. Approximately 6000 troops were to facilitate this mission for the next 48 hours. The statement further explained that thousands of US citizens and those local people who worked with the American personnel would be safely transferred out of the country. The US Special Immigration Visas would be speeded up and more Afghans will be moved to the US after security clearances.
