Vienna, 27 December 2021 (TDI): JCPOA Joint Commission meeting started yesterday at Palais Coburg in Vienna, Austria. The principal goal is to follow up the removal of anti-Iran sanctions and the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal.

The meeting comprises Foreign Ministers and directors of the political affairs level of Iran and the P4 + 1 Group. The Members include China, Russia, Germany, France, and the UK.

In this opportunity, Iran’s top nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani and Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service Enrique Mora are charging the meeting.

Since Bagheri Kani’s arrival in Vienna, he held a number of bilateral and multilateral meetings with the P4 + 1 senior negotiators. The official explained Iran’s will to fulfill nuclear obligations and highlighted the need to lift US sanctions.

Furthermore, the Iranian top nuclear negotiator stipulated that the eighth round can be the last one “if other parties show seriousness and accept Iran’s rational stances and viewpoints on the lifting of sanctions”.

European officials accepted Iran’s proposals at the end of the seventh round of Vienna talks. Therefore, the sides reached a consensus on a joint document, which has turned into a basis for future negotiations.

Earlier, the European Union said in a statement that the Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is expected to focus on ways to remove the US unlawful sanctions on Iran.

First, Britain, France, and Germany ruled out Iranians’ draft texts and called for a halt to return to their capitals for more consultations. However, the current joint document includes around 80 percent of Iran’s draft texts.

The Iranian Spokesman also said that: “Contrary to the Western side’s claim about Iran’s call for a hiatus in negotiations, these three countries and other members of the P4+1 are fully aware that the timetable was fixed following a consensus among all parties and in consideration of the holidays of the European sides on the occasion of Christmas and the New Year”.
