Tokyo, 4 October 2022 (TDI): The United States, Secretary of State, Antoney Blinken held a telephone meeting with Foreign Minister of Japan Hayashi Yoshimasa.
Both ministers condemned North Korea’s missile launch that flew over Japan for the first time in five years. The missile launch indicated an imminent challenge to the security of the country.
Japan and the United States, in this regard, agreed on their joint coordination along with the Republic of Korea, to denuclearize North Korea by the United Nations Security Council resolutions. Meanwhile, Hayashi reiterated his determination to fundamentally reinforce Japan’s defense capabilities.

The Secretary of States, Antony Blinken reiterated the determination to strengthen the Japan-U. S alliance. The trilateral cooperation between Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the United States would continue to exist with joint efforts.
Japan-US-ROK Trilateral Cooperation
The trilateral cooperation among Japan, ROK, and the United States, under the Indo-Pacific strategy, bolsters on a wide regional level. This cooperation mainly focuses on promoting the security and peace of the region through the denuclearization of North Korea.
The bilateral military exercises between the United States and ROK are an example of expanding the scope of the trilateral cooperation beyond the Korean peninsula. The efforts to promote relations between Japan and ROK through diplomatic meetings are also underway.

The U.S-Japan Alliance is the cornerstone of U.S. security interests in Asia and is fundamental to regional stability and prosperity.
The Alliance is based on shared vital interests and values. Te shared interests include the maintenance of stability in the Indo-Pacific region, the preservation and promotion of political and economic freedoms, and support for human rights and democratic institutions.
The relationship between both states has become global due to their combined areas of interest.
